CHARIS MINUTES
Where is my inheritance?
In this Charis Minute, Rick McFarland answers the question, ‘Where is my inheritance?’ and talks about our inheritance in Christ and where we can find it. Rick highlights how accessible this inheritance is and how we go about accessing it. Adding a warning that feelings of condemnation and guilt can hinder faith, making it essential for believers to recognise that their sins have been dealt with through Jesus’ sacrifice.
Where is my inheritance? What does the Word say?
So let’s hop right in with the Word of God. Ephesians 1:3 says,
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
First of all, it says, who has blessed us, not going to bless us, not will bless us, but has blessed us. Secondly, it says spiritual blessing in heavenly places. Your spiritual blessings and your spiritual inheritance are in the spirit realm. When you got born again, it was placed in your born-again spirit. When you’re born again, your spirit is in the spirit realm. Everything that you need, such as the healing power of God, is in your spirit man. So where is my inheritance…it’s in the spirit realm.
Where is my inheritance – looking in the New Testament
I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.
Acts 26:17-18
There is a fullness that God has for you, but it has to be drawn out into the natural, and we do that by faith. God mentions to Paul that there’s an inheritance that He wants Paul to proclaim, and this inheritance is for all believers. This message that Paul is to preach is through Christ we have our sins forgiven, but we’ve also been given an inheritance by grace.
Where is my inheritance? Look to the Word of His grace
Ok so let’s look at Acts chapter 20, and look at verse 32, which is speaking about our inheritance,
So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
This is for all believers, and as a believer, you have an inheritance. God’s given it to you, but again, where is this inheritance? It is in heavenly places in Christ, in the spirit realm, which includes your spirit man. Everything that God will ever give you has already been put within you. We need a revelation of what’s on the inside of us.
Where is my inheritance? Do we need to ask again?
We’ve been looking up to God asking Him to give us, this, that and the other, but you know what? You need to realise He’s already given it to you. God put that inheritance on the inside of you. It came to you because of the death of Jesus, and it came by grace.
What is in the inheritance? We’re going to look at a verse that talks about the forgiveness of sins, but also healing as part of that inheritance. We find that in 1 Peter 2:24 it says,
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
I think many people find this verse, and they immediately say, yeah, that’s the verse that says, by His stripes you were healed. But guys, that’s not the entire verse. That’s just the last part of the verse. When we read the entire verse, there are two main things that we see. Firstly, “who himself”, Jesus bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness, by whose stripes you were healed. All sins past, present, and future are forgiven. When you understand that, you can answer the question, ‘where’s my inheritance’, and you can tap into the inheritance:
- healing,
- prosperity,
- holiness,
- freedom
That’s all received by faith. What will cripple your faith faster than anything is condemnation, guilt, and not realising that all your sins have been dealt with by the blood. This clears your conscience, and you’re able to receive by faith.
