CHARIS MINUTES
How Will God Show Me The Next Step?
In this Charis Minute, Andrew Wommack answers the question, ‘How Will God Show Me The Next Step?’, using Elijah as an allegory for the necessity of taking action based on faith rather than waiting for complete assurance or resources before stepping out. Andrew references Psalm 37:4, which underscores the principle that delighting in the Lord aligns one’s desires with God’s will.
Andrew clarifies that this alignment does not equate to fulfilling selfish or lustful desires but rather indicates that God will instil His desires in the hearts of those who prioritise their relationship with Him. This leads us to experience how God will show us the next step. Andrew Wommack is an instructor for Charis Bible College Australia and the founder of Charis Bible College.
Looking at the example of Elijah for how God will show the next step?
Elijah just acted on the word that he had, and after he had been faithful to the first thing, God showed him the second step.
I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
1 Kings 17:4b
You know the brook Cherith? It was miles long. How did he know? For sure? He was in the right spot. One of the ways he could tell is that the ravens could fly faster than he could run. So when he got to the Brook Cherith and saw the ravens were there, he knew he was in the right spot. The supply was there. How will God show me the next step…sometimes it’s where the supply is placed.
Faith and obedience for the next step
The problem is we’re sitting here and saying, “Oh God, give me all the supplies.” I’m not only talking about money, but also jobs or connections. You’re waiting on God to work all these things out, and then you’re wanting to step out when there’s no faith involved. That’s not how it works; you’ve got to obey God. If you have a desire in your heart to come to Charis Bible College, the devil didn’t put it there.
Many people ask how God will show them the next step when it comes to attending Bible College. The desire to go to Bible College is not your flesh, and it is not the devil. God has put that desire in you, and this is one of the ways that God leads you. Psalm 37:4 says
Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
That doesn’t mean that He’ll just give you anything you lust for. No, it means that when you put God first and delight yourself in the Lord, He puts His desires in your heart. You can then do what you want to do if your number one desire is to please God and love God with all of your heart. So delighting yourself in Him is a way for God to show you the next step.
