Forgetting what lies behind, looking forward

Jan 1, 2024

Do you know that there’s more but are afraid to leave the familiar to follow your heart? Grace Kissinger was…

At 19, with direction for her life, she was ready for something to change.

“I asked God to show me what to do, and He answered! While on the school’s website, one girl’s testimony really spoke to me, and I knew Charis was where I was supposed to be.

I applied and planned to attend in the fall. But that summer, I got distracted by life, friends and a relationship. When it was time to go, I didn’t even want to anymore. I was afraid of all that I would lose.

I went anyway, but for two weeks, all I thought about was what I’d left behind. So I moved back home. But I had no peace. Knowing I wasn’t doing what I was supposed to be doing and extremely unhappy, I stayed for almost a year. God blessed me, but I knew there was more.

With the Holy Spirit’s ‘encouragement’, I finally told God, ‘Okay, I’ll go back!!’ Immediate peace came over me! Everything that I left before, I was leaving again—but this time I wasn’t afraid; I was excited! Returning home only made me realize why I left in the first place!

Like Paul, I determined to forget the things that were behind and look forward to what lay ahead.God began to bless me more than I ever thought possible. He provided all that I needed. I’m amazed daily at all God is doing in my life, and there are amazing things to come!

Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:12-14

It’s ALWAYS worth it to listen to God—who knows best and desires to bless us! And it’s never too late to listen. He is always willing to start anew and do great things in our lives. Honestly, apart from making Jesus my Lord and Saviour, coming to Charis was the best decision of my life!
