3 Steps to Living by Faith

Apr 4, 2023

As believers, we are to live a life of faith, and God is speaking to us.

But too many times we’ve only valued the spectacular, and we’ve missed the spiritual. God is speaking to you. He’s already planted desires in your heart.

“Well, how do I know it’s God and not just me or even the enemy?” you ask. “Don’t I need confirmation from God?”

No! Take off your toddler pants. Put your big boy or your big girl pants on and grow up! For me today, the Lord leads me more by the desires of my heart. What do I want to do? What don’t I want to do?

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

—Psalm 37:4

Here are 3 steps to delighting yourself in the Lord and being sure that your desires are His desires:

Submit

Submit yourself to God. — A heart that is fully submitted to God is difficult to lead astray. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (Jas. 4:7).

Seek

Seek God with your whole heart— “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:7). That is a promise!

Select

Partner with the Holy Spirit to select only the desires of the Spirit to act on. — If you’ve submitted to God and are seeking Him, this one pretty much will naturally take place. “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit” (Rom. 8:5).

Once you’re doing these 3 things, the only thing that’s left is the desire that is in your heart. What you desire after you delight yourself in Him is what He wants.

We have to quit wimping out and wanting God to audibly speak every little thing to us. He’s already confirmed and witnessed things through His Word. Let’s put confidence in the voice of God and the desires that He’s planted in our hearts and stop wimping out! I understand you like confirmation, so I’m giving you confirmation today.

This is a life of faith that we’re called to live, and we only go as far in the kingdom as what we believe for. Let’s believe BIG!
