CHARIS MINUTES
Watch the video to hear Barry’s full answer on why is healing not automatic
It’s a common question that Christians have but we are not always willing to honestly ask. Well, today someone has! Why is healing not automatic? The questioner says if Jesus already paid for our sickness and diseases then why does the healing not just manifest without us having to do anything? Why is healing not automatic? In this Charis Minute, Barry Bennett points us towards Jesus to learn something of who He is to find an answer and peace surrounding this question.
If Jesus did everything why is healing not automatic?
You may have thought like the questioner that it seems contradictory to do things to receive healing when Jesus has already done everything. Well, it will harden your heart. I know a lot of people get frustrated in this area. I want to give you an analogy here. If we were to ask can an apple tree produce apples there wouldn’t be many if any people who would disagree. But what if I take a branch off that apple tree, is it still a branch from an apple tree if it’s no longer connected to the life source? There’s no longer life flowing into that branch. Though it still biologically is a branch from an apple tree, and there may even be apples starting to grow on it, I’ve cut it off from its source, and independent from its source it is not going to continue producing apples.
The reason why we exhort you to stay in the Word
When we encourage you to stay in the Word, and proclaim the Word, and listen to teachings, we’re not projecting works onto you. We are encouraging you to stay connected to the Vine. Stay connected to Jesus. That’s what this is all about.
Apple trees don’t just produce apples automatically. The tree has to stay rooted and grounded in the rich, fertile soil. It has to be watered. So why is healing not automatic, well it’s the same thing as the apple tree as it is with our lives.
It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
We typically have three meals a day, so the analogy and comparison here is that you should be listening to God as often as you eat. You can’t live by bread alone but by every word and so we should be in such a tight fellowship with the Lord that we are getting nourished in the Spirit continually. So why is healing not automatic, well sometimes it involves what we choose to try and live by. Hearing the Word of God is going to have a lot to do with receiving the healing.
