Just for a moment, imagine you were one of Jesus’ disciples…
The man you believed to be the Messiah has been arrested, beaten beyond recognition as a human being, and is about to be crucified.
“But many were amazed when they saw him. His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man.” –Isaiah 52:14 NLT
Can you imagine the despair they must’ve felt—and even more after Jesus’ crucifixion? All that you believed He would accomplish on Earth, even your hope died on that cross with Him. For the disciples, this had to be the worst tragedy ever.
But the crucifixion of Jesus was both the greatest tragedy and the most extraordinary act of sacrificial love in the history of man.
And it wasn’t the end of the story…
Just three days later, His resurrection turned despair and apparent tragedy into eternal hope and triumph!
Because of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection:
- Even with all the division and unrest in our world today, we can walk in perfect peace—not the kind the world gives, Jesus left us His peace (Jn. 14:27).
- Even when so many are in isolation because of COVID, we can rejoice that we are never alone because He will never leave nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5).
- We don’t have to be afraid of the pandemic because sickness is part of the curse of the law, and Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law (Gal. 3:13).
- We don’t have to fear any financial crises because He was made poor so we might be rich (2 Cor. 8:9).
- We are free from the bondage of sin because Jesus broke the power of sin over us (Rom. 6:6). As a matter of fact, Jesus actually became sin, so we could be the righteousness of God in Him (2 Cor. 5:21)
- We don’t have to fear the future because we have the Holy Spirit who will lead us into all truth and show us things to come (Jn. 16:13).
- And we have a heavenly Father who loves us with an unconditional love that never fails (1 Cor. 13:8a).
Let our risen Savior turn your doubts into assurance and your fear into faith.
Just as the darkness of that infamous Friday gave way to the glorious triumph of Sunday morning, He called us out of darkness into His marvelous light, and He always leads us in triumph in Christ! (1 Pet. 2:9 & 2 Cor. 2:14)
